ENTER BRANCH (TIMES WE GROW)

VISION

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

In Enter Branch, saxophonist and composer Nick Zoulek offers a stunningly physical and immersive listening experience across nine expansive tracks.

Enter Branch pairs the raw, real-time expressiveness of continuous solo saxophone performance with collaborations that use genre itself as a means of expression. Performed on bass, tenor, alto, and acoustically extended saxophones, every part was recorded in full, uninterrupted takes. Rather than relying on effects like delays or looping, Zoulek combines circular breathing, fluttering overtones, arpeggiated pulses, and an arsenal of extended techniques built from his mastery of classical and avant-garde performance to evoke a story of both rapture and rupture.

Enter Branch features a striking lineup of collaborators from across the musical spectrum. The album’s first track, “Mirrored Glass,” features S. Carey and serves as an emotional prologue to Enter Branch. Carey’s vocals surface within the thrum of Zoulek’s spectrally blurred textures, creating a moment of reflection before the album splinters and expands. Spoken word artist J. Ivy delivers a revelatory performance on “Organic,” anchoring the tidal momentum of the music with a mantra of growth. Nathalie Joachim (Flutronix) brings layered vocals to the crushing textures of “Reach.” Elsewhere, Zoulek's mastery in the classical and jazz idioms radiates through the music, heightened by contributions from cellist Nick Photinos (Eighth Blackbird), ~Nois, the Tontine Ensemble, Chris Porterfield (Field Report), and others.

“Every musician on this album is so inspirational not only in their artistry, but through their involvement in their respective communities," Zoulek says. "I've always been inspired by music that blurs boundaries, but rather than destroying those walls, I see this as creating something more."

Each artist brings a distinct voice that, together, forms a sound world richer than the sum of its parts, creating textures that expand the album’s immersive landscape.

The album crafts its sonic vastness through experimental recording techniques and intentionality. Each piece was composed with specific production approaches as a foundation, drawing on the saxophone’s most distinct sonic qualities. While much of the mixing and production was handled by Zoulek himself, he collaborated with engineers who craft the music that inspires him, working with Brian F. Joseph, Casey Foubert, Daniel Holter, Mike Tierney, and Michael Laurello to sculpt the album’s aural architecture.

Enter Branch opens at a point of collapse and grows outward, searching through hard, unwatered dirt while reaching for new truth. Recurring melodies, timbres, rhythms, and harmonies act as connective tissue, resurfacing like memories you’re not sure are yours. The result feels as biological as it does musical: more human than machine, and yet made possible only through Zoulek’s inventive use of the machinery itself.

Enter Branch is available now via Better Company Records.

Lyrics

MIRRORED GLASS

Somewhere calls
Face in the sunbeam
All who seem
To pass us by

Too late this time
What kept us by
Drifting to find

Where we are
Sleepless nights
Failing times

All we are is mirrored glass

ORGANIC (feat. J. Ivy)

Have you ever?

Have you ever taken a moment

To have a sit down with the opponent
In the mirror?

Breath
Smile
Collect yourself

Peer through the unbroken glass
Pick up the pieces you thought were broken
By your past

After all
Isn’t this space merely make believe

We make our futures based on what we

See

"Who cluttered, who cluttered, who cluttered your heart?"
Stuttered the parts that speak to your soul

Oh me?

Well

My grave is a cave where I think I can't be saved
Frigid and frustrated
Lost in the now
Lost in the how

Conscious, unconcentrated
Every failure contemplated as if
Setback wasn’t a win

Every lesson taken on the chin
Leads to growth

Every breath taken feeds on hope
The scope of change isn’t always so clear

I Ear Candle so I can wax poetic what I hear

Smear my genius on the canvas
Blues and greens
I choose to keep it organic
Homegrown

Sometimes courage is needed when we panic
When we’re home alone

Gone
High gone from every stone thrown
Kick rocks
Aim higher

Habitually we claim tired

Life is a chain of choices

Claim your fire, walk the wire
Don’t be distracted by the voices

Fix yourself, Tony, fix yourself

Health is wealth
Steer the ship
Keep it steady
Take a load off
The road is the road

That don’t mean it have to be heavy
It don’t have to be heavy

Breathe

Breathe

Somewhere calls
Light breaks horizon
Follow what seems
To lighten the sky
Drift now in time

You stay
You stay in time
Passing by
With no more thralls
Or restless tides

Who
You
Reach to
Who

Reach down
Grow through
Far beyond
What we once knew

Now behind the harm
Light finds horizon

With no more pause
And time to find

Who
You

Who
You

So why not try
Why not try to find

Who
You
Reach to

REACH (feat. Nathalie Joachim)

FAITH

Ran out of faith
Came out in the rain
Those sleepless nights
Fade

Went out afraid
But now repay
What I lost the first time

A love profane
My heart would stay
But darling who
Are you now

Time and again
My world would end
Penance, fallow, and strife
Found

I find a way
Right out that lane
Of hollow truth

Nothing to gain
A heart to tame
Now that you

We’ve gone through

When you’re a half world away
On the corner of main
With a pocket of change
And a love that may feign

We bind true
